Break Through Weight Loss Plateau

Break Through Weight Loss Plateau

You started eating right and exercising regularly. At first, the pounds melted away. Now your weight loss has come to a screeching halt. No matter how healthy your diet is or how much you work out, the scale just won’t budge. Fortunately, there are some easy tricks you can use to keep the progress going. Here are some simple ways to break through your weight-loss plateau:

1. Keep a food journal

First of all, you need to figure out if you’re really eating as healthy as you think you are. Buy a small notebook and keep it with you so you can record everything you eat. Be sure to make note of even small nibbles like a handful of candy off your coworker’s desk or a lick of frosting during bake sale preparations. Those little tastes may not seem like much, but the calories can start to add up if you aren’t careful. A food diary can help you track what you’re putting into your body so you can adjust your intake accordingly.

2. Eat with your metabolic rate in mind

Once you’ve determined that your calorie consumption is in the appropriate range for your weight-loss goals, you may want to think about tweaking your diet, read more here. Your body can quickly adapt to a low-calorie eating plan and your initial weight loss may slow down drastically. However, you might be able combat that problem by introducing some new foods into the mix. Instead of always eating the same old thing, try filling your plate with some different types of healthy fare. Your metabolism will likely have to work harder to break everything down. Foods with high amounts of protein are particularly good metabolism boosters. By keeping your metabolic rate revved up, you’ll also boost your chances of crushing your weight-loss plateau.

3. Change up your workouts

In addition to varying your diet, you may want to consider changing your exercise routine as well. When you’re hitting the gym on a regular basis, it can be easy to fall into a rut in terms of what equipment you use. Unfortunately, that can lead to getting stuck in a weight-loss rut as well.  Your muscles may adjust to your typical movements and you’ll no longer get the full benefits of your daily workouts. Start using different muscles by trying out some new exercises. If you normally run on a treadmill, spend some time on the elliptical machine instead. In place of your usual weightlifting, take a 30-minute spin class. You’ll fight that “muscle memory” as well as keep things exciting and fresh. That means you’ll be more likely to stick with your workouts and move forward with your weight-loss goals.

When you’re trying to lose weight, it’s normal to hit a bit of a snag at some point in time. It’s what you do next that determines whether or not your weight-loss success continues. By using the simple tips on this list, you can break through that plateau and keep dropping those pounds!
